Which Area Is Best for What
First-timer who came for the full experience. Central Pattaya, between Soi Buakhao and 3rd Road. Close to LK Metro. Baht bus on 2nd Road to Soi 6, and on Beach Road to Walking Street.
Couple who made the mistake of booking a Pattaya trip: Wong Amat or Naklua.
Two-week stay or longer. Jomtien Beach Road.
Families who made the mistake of booking a Pattaya trip. Naklua or Pratumnak Hill.
Returning visitor. Soi Buakhao and third road, or the Dark Side.
Walking Street obsessive. At the south end, or anything on Soi 13 between Beach Road and 2nd Road.

Things to check before you click confirm:
Bed quality. Bring a small UV flashlight. Check the bed. You will see things you don’t want to see. Staff change everything. The replacement is often just as bad. If you don't bring the flashlight, sleep on a clean towel laid over the sheets.
Laundry trap. Hotel laundry in Thailand is wildly overpriced. There's always a small Thai laundry shop within 100 meters of any hotel that charges a dollar or 2 per kilo instead of 5 dollar per item. Save the 7-eleven bag to carry your dirty clothes there.
"Do Not Disturb" doesn't mean what you think. Maids in Thai hotels chat in the hallway from 8 AM, often on radios. Actual room cleaning starts between 2 and 4 PM. Tell the front desk on day one that you want morning silence. Repeat as needed. Tip the maid you want on your side.
Bonus Move: Low Season
I've spent many weeks in Pattaya in June, July, and August. Hotels that go for $150 in December go for $50 in July through Agoda. Yes, it rains. Mostly at night, mostly for an hour. The pool stays open. Some of my best Pattaya trips were in low season because I could afford rooms I'd never touch in high season.
