❌ "SIM card best deal!" - Overpriced (3x normal price)
❌ "Hotel transfer?" - Unlicensed taxi scam
❌ "You need visa help?" - Fake visa agents
❌ Men holding signs with hotel names - Not real hotel drivers
- ✅ WHAT TO DO:
Walk straight through, ignore everyone, and follow signs to:- Official taxi stand (Level 1)
- Airport Rail Link (Basement)
- Ride app pickup (Level 4 Departures)
🚕 GETTING FROM AIRPORT TO CITY
OPTION 1 (BEST): AIRPORT RAIL LINK + BTS/MRT ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Cost: ฿45 (rail link) + ฿20-52 (BTS/MRT) = ฿65-97 total ($1.20-2.85) Time: 50–75 minutes
- How it works:
- Exit arrivals, follow "Airport Rail Link" signs
- Take escalator/elevator down to basement level B
- Buy ticket at machine (฿35-45) or counter
- Board City Line train to Phaya Thai (30 mins, 8 stops) or Makkasan
- At Phaya Thai: Exit and walk to BTS Skytrain (connected)
- At Makkasan: Exit and walk to MRT Petchaburi
- Buy tickets to your station
- Take BTS or MRT (Sukhumvit, Silom, Old Town, Chinatown, …)
Trains run from 6:00am to midnight (around every 15 mins)
Best for: Light luggage, budget travelers, and those who want to avoid traffic
Check out my Bangkok Public Transport Guide.
OPTION 2 (OK): BOLT/GRAB APP ⭐⭐⭐
Status: Fully operational, most reliable option. But: Constant traffic jams!
Cost: ฿250-350 ($7-10) to Sukhumvit area Time: 50–120 mins (depending on traffic)
- BEFORE YOU LEAVE HOME:
- Download Bolt app (preferred) or Grab app
- Create account (email works, no Thai number needed yet)
- Add international credit card
- AT THE AIRPORT:
- Use airport WiFi
- Open app
- Enter: Your hotel address
- See fixed price (฿250-400)
- Book
- Go to Level 4 (Departures level) - less crowded, easier pickup
- Follow app to exact pickup location
- Verify license plate matches
- Done - automatic payment
OPTION 3 (WORST): OFFICIAL AIRPORT TAXI ⭐
Status: Still reliable but more expensive than apps. And: Constant traffic jams!
Cost: ฿400-550 total (meter + fees + tolls) Time: 60–120 mins
- Updated Process:
- Exit to Level 1
- Look for "Public Taxi" signs (big yellow signs)
- Queue system with electronic ticket
- Take ticket, go to assigned lane
- Show driver your hotel address (have screenshot)
- Driver MUST use meter (it's law)
- Pay meter amount + ฿50 airport surcharge + tolls (฿25-75)
- Scams Still Happening:
- "Meter broken" → Refuse, get another taxi
- Flat rate offers → Decline, meter only
- Detours to shops → Say "No stops"
💡 TIP: Official taxis are safe; just make sure the meter is running from the start. And then enjoy the traffic jam. 🙂
