#### Bangkok – Premium Golf in the Capital

### What Makes Golf in Thailand Unique

#### Mandatory Caddies and the "Smile" Service

A caddie is required for every player — and most are women known for friendly smiles and expert assistance.

What your caddie does: Drives the cart and handles your clubs (caddies do the driving at most courses). Expert course knowledge — helps with club selection, distances, reading greens (Thai greens have grain that fools foreigners). Full-service support — cleans clubs and ball, rakes bunkers, tends flag, keeps score, offers water, holds umbrella. Positive vibes — cheerful and encouraging, uses humor, helps you shake off bad shots.

Cultural note: Overt anger or yelling on the course is very uncommon in Thailand. Losing your temper causes everyone to "lose face." Adopt a "mai pen rai" (no worries) attitude.

****Caddie Tipping:** Good service ฿400–600\. Exceptional service ฿800–1,000\. Hand the tip directly with "khop khun khráp/khá" (thank you) and a smile.

#### 10 Essential Thai Phrases for Golfers

****Sawasdee khráp/khá** – Hello. Universal greeting (khráp for male, khá for female).  
****Khop khun khráp/khá** – Thank you. Always thank your caddie and staff.  
****Sai** – Left. Ball heading left, or caddie points left.  
****Khwaa** – Right. Ball heading right, or caddie points right.  
****Nam** – Water. Water hazard warning, or ask for drinking water.  
****Mai pen rai** – No worries / It's okay. After a bad shot — sets positive tone.  
****Suay maak** – Very beautiful. Compliment a scenic hole or great putt read.  
****Dee** – Good. "Dee maak" means very good.  
****Wai** – Greeting bow. Return the gesture when staff greet you with palms together.  
****Hong naam yòo nǎi?** – Where is the restroom? At clubhouse or halfway huts.  
Bonus: "Chai" means yes, "Mai chai" means no, "Yùt" means stop.

#### 5 Cultural Don'ts on Thai Courses

****Don't lose your temper or shout.** "Jai yen" (cool heart) is the Thai way. Angry outbursts cause embarrassment ("losing face"). Take a deep breath and smile.

****Don't touch someone's head.** The head is sacred in Thai culture. Even playfully mussing hair is inappropriate. A smile or light clap for celebration is fine.

****Don't point your feet at people.** Feet are considered the lowest/dirtiest body part. Don't prop feet on tables or chairs. At temples, never point feet toward Buddha statues.

****Don't ignore the dress code.** Collared shirt, golf shorts/trousers, proper shoes required. No shirtless play. Remove hats and change shoes in certain clubhouse areas.

****Don't skimp on tipping.** Not tipping (or giving coins) is seen as rude. Small tips (฿50–100) for shuttle drivers and bag drop attendants are appreciated. Smile often.

****Tiger Woods' Thai Heritage** – Tiger's mother, Kultida "Tida" Woods, was born and raised in Thailand. His famous Sunday red shirt is a Thai tradition for good luck. You'll see his photo at many clubhouses.
